Okrug Sent Meri, Merilend

Deciding to become an Airbnb host is a big decision. It's important to understand the laws in your city. While we are unable to give legal advice, we can provide some useful links to help you better understand your responsibility as a host, and as a member of the community. We will update this information as it becomes available.

Local taxes

In accordance with local laws, Airbnb collects 6% of the listing price, including any cleaning fees, on behalf of our hosts, and remit them to the state of Maryland. See the State of Maryland’s website for more information on sales tax.

As a host, you are still responsible for assessing county and city level tax obligations. St. Mary's County imposes a Public Accommodations Tax at 5% of the listing price, including cleaning fees. Remittance forms are available on the State of Maryland’s website.

For more information on the St. Mary’s County Public Accommodations Tax, please visit the County’s finance department website, or contact Becky Trossbach at becky.trossbach@stmarysmd.com.

Other contracts and rules

As a host, you are bound by co-op or HOA rules, and any other contracts established by tenant organizations. For more information, contact the local housing authority. Best practice would be to contact your landlord and review your lease agreement.

Our commitment to your community

By partnering with local officials, Airbnb is committed to showing how hosting can benefit your community. We will continue to advocate for changes that support everyday people and opportunities to host in a community setting.
