Shelduck is a detached period stone house with wonderful original features. The spacious master bedroom has a 4-poster bed & 2 arm chairs & a solid fuel stove. There are 2 new bathrooms & a new kitchen. There is a garden with a private hot tub (optional charges apply see below).

Exclusive use of the owners private heated indoor swimming pool, spa bath and sauna is also available for an additional charge, subject to availability.

Shelduck cottage is a unique quirky period double fronted detached cottage hidden away in a private square a stones throw from the centre of the village.

It is only accessible up a steep cobbled slope that only leads to the four houses in the square. It is a quiet hidden oasis only two minutes steep climb from the busy bustling centre of the village.

It has a spacious master bedroom with a King size four poster bed and a multi fuel stove in a wonderful stone fireplace with two windows out to the private garden. Bedroom two has a king size bed and a window out to the garden. Bedroom three has a double bed and a window overlooking the garden, the bed is against the wall, so there is no room to walk around the left hand side of it. The cottage sleeps six in three bedrooms. We also have two other cottages that sleep four/three each.

The newly updated main bathroom runs the full width of the cottage and has a deep roll top slipper bath and period sanitary wear and panelling. The newly installed shower room has a powerful Invincible rain shower with period sanitary wear and panelling.

The newly installed kitchen has a new dishwasher, fridge, microwave and cooker, toaster and kettle as well as an electric stove in the fireplace, a large kitchen table and a window seat.

The sitting room has a fireplace with an electric stove, dual aspect windows and two comfortable sofas. It has a smart tv and DVD player with iPlayer, ITV player, Netflix and guests can access their own Amazon accounts.

All the furniture is classic solid wood with tongue and groove joints. There is free unlimited broadband and wi-fi. There is also a useful storage room for bikes and prams etc, this room also has a large fridge freezer. There is also a boiler room which has a small washing machine.

The outside space includes a private hot tub (additional costs apply) in the garden with a table and chairs and a BBQ on request (for a small additional cost).

Swimming pool and swimspa

The indoor swimming pool and outdoor swimspa are located at the owner’s property which is approximately 7 miles from Holmfirth.

The private indoor pool is in a converted barn and has views out over the owner’s field to the Peak District moors beyond. The pool is heated between 30 to 32 degrees Celsius. It is 8mx5m (26’3”x16’5”) and has a 2m deep end.

The outdoor swimspa – which is a large hot tub with a separate swimming area – has panoramic views out to the Peak District.

Guests can book the pool for their exclusive use for 75-minutes for the discounted rate of £10 pp (min charge £45) if they are using the hot tub at their property. Without the hot tub it is a minimum charge of £55 on weekdays and £60 on weekends. The outdoor swimspa costs £45 for 75-minutes.

Guests must arrive ‘beach ready’. These prices are subject to review in line with changing COVID-19 cleaning protocols.

In the swimming pool room there is an indoor spa bath. In the adjacent changing room there is also a sauna - if guests hire the pool, both are also available for £5 and £10 respectively if the swimming pool is booked.

There are separate house rules for the swimming pool.

Use of the pool is subject to availability. Please book early to avoid disappointment. To do so send an Airbnb message with your preferred time/s and dates. We need at least 48 hours’ notice for each session.

The cottage is at the very heart of this quirky village but completely hidden away on a private cobbled street.

Holmfirth is a quirky village, as wonderfully showcased in the TV series Last of the Summer Wine. It is ideal for hikers and cyclists, but also for people who want to wander its quaint streets and enjoy the market and numerous shops, pubs and restaurants and other attractions.

There is also a live music venue - the Picturedrome. The centre of the village is a two minute walk down steep steps and cobbles from the cottage. The walks can be accessed right from the door. Holme Moss, the steepest climb on the Yorkshire section of the Tour de France is a short cyle ride away. The river running through the village always has lots of ducks to feed and there is the famous annual Holmfirth Duck race and many annual festivals including the Festival of Folk, Arts Festival, the Food and Drink Festival and several beer festivals.

I have spent the last six years hosting guests in one of our holiday properties in Holmfirth at the same time as caring for my mother, who sadly is no longer with us.

Prior to that I spent over 30 years working full-time and as a volunteer in the corporate and voluntary sectors, most recently as Chief Executive of a national charity and voluntary Chair of a local children's hospice.

I decided to go part-time in 2015 to spend more time caring for my Mother following the death of my Father. My husband and I bought four properties in Holmfirth where I was born and brought up, with the intention of establishing a holiday cottage business - so Your Yorkshire Time - Holmfirth Hot-Tub Heaven was born.

We welcomed our first guests in 2016. All the properties are quirky period properties with original features and we hope the perfect venues for your time together, so if you're feeling in need of recuperation and pampering come and relax with us.

The properties proved to be so popular that they soon become a full-time job! But one that I was able to do initially with my Mother and although it is much harder physically than anything that I have done before, helping me gave my Mum a real purpose in life again. Sadly she became very ill in 2018 and not only was she unable to help, but I needed to spend more time supporting her. But the positive side of this is that we have been able to provide work for local people who now do all the cottage cleaning and laundry for us.

I now concentrate on everything else, most importantly and most enjoyably meeting our guests and making sure that they have a wonderful holiday. My motto in life is I'll sleep when I'm dead!
