Welcome to the Big Red House in Bangor! After the BRH became temporary housing for medical personnel at the start of the pandemic, it is back to hosting vacationers. We thank our essential workers for being a light in our darkest hours.❤️ We are excited to invite back familiar faces as well as new travelers to Maine. Built c. 1869, the BRH is one of the Queen City’s oldest homes; once the residence of sea captains and other interesting people of the past. Come stay!

Prostor
This gorgeous house has 3 bedrooms; Orion’s Garden and Rue du Soleil with queen beds, and the Cambria Room with a twin. There are 2 full bathrooms with claw foot tubs; 1 with shower. The living room and office are adjoining with French doors. Enjoy a huge eat-in kitchen with window seats and an arched pass-through, a big walk-in closet, 21 tall windows, tin ceilings, wood flooring and Italian tile. Cozy up in the conversational love seat and chair and fire up the parlor pellet stove for those chilly fall and winter nights. Second living room has a large office desk and game-filled cabinet. Enjoy the backyard deck, and driveway long enough for three cars. Park your car in the garage to get out of the snow, if you like. Wi-Fi, Roku TV and DVD player. Plenty of movies to watch. The Big Red House is close to the downtown area, where you'll find theatres, art galleries, museums, shops, boutique restaurants, night life, the Penobscot River, and concerts on the famous Bangor Waterfront in the summer. The yummy rhubarb growing in the side garden is yours to pick for pie-making during the summer. The neighborhood is nice and quiet and it has a ton of history! It is considered East Side Bangor and is located 2 blocks from the home of famous Maine author, Stephen King and less than a mile from the Bangor Waterfront where summer concerts typically take place. Bangor was once the logging capital of the world and was host to hundreds of European immigrants seeking logging jobs along the Penobscot River. Visit the Bangor Historical Society down the street to learn more about Bangor’s rich history including the 1937 Brady Gang Shootout on Central Street, downtown. Yours truly participated in a reenactment of that infamous day! The Big Red House is within walking distance to grocery/convenience stores, gas stations, hair salons, restaurants, museums, theaters, churches, schools, and parks. Stay in a part of history. Stay at the Big Red House!

We can't wait for your visit to the Big Red House in Bangor. Built c. 1869, the historic BRH was my permanent home for nearly 25 years. So many wonderful memories are here. Many of my family members were born and raised in Bangor and the surrounding towns. This will always be our 'home.' There are some wonderful little boutique restaurants right downtown. See performances at the Penobscot Theatre on Main Street and take a river stroll along the Penobscot waterfront. If you venture on a short walk just a couple blocks away, you'll find the house of Maine Author, Stephen King. It's red, just like the BRH! There is so much history to learn about the charming ‘Queen City.’ Visit the Bangor Historical Society to find out more.

I understand why you have come to Airbnb. Not only will you find deals on overnight stays, but it's just that feel of secure comfort that we love when we are away from home. I've traveled to many places, both in the US and in foreign lands, and I always enjoyed sleeping at guest houses and quaint little inns. There's something special about staying at the home of a local. The Big Red House awaits you.
