"Russel Valley Retreat" looks out over a pristine valley, with a Sierra Mountain Range backdrop. The valley is famous for the emigrant trail, the cabin was once owned by a rock climbing legend, but the true magic of this special retreat lies within the ever-changing valley, the activities of countless bird species, nightly frog chorus, and expansive, endless starry skies.
Hike, walk, bike, snowshoe, ski, fish, explore, relax, and recharge all within a short distance of beautiful Lake Tahoe.

Prostor
The little cabin is extremely cozy, perfect for a retreat up in the mountains. Nestled in Russel Valley, it's ideal for people who want to get a little off the grid, while still being close to everything the Tahoe/Truckee area has to offer. While only 10 miles from downtown Truckee it feels as if you are going back in time to the 'ole West. You can walk (and see from the cabin) a post quoting wagon train explorers on the original Emigrant trail. The cabin was once owned by the first man to climb "El Capitan", Warren Harding, it was also the first cabin in this area, originally used by the Forest Service.
For winter months the area is great snow-shoeing, cross country skiing and about 20/30 minute drive to Northstar, Alpine or Squaw Valley from the cabin door. Main source for heat is wood burning stove. I do have some wood for you when you arrive, but I would recommend you pick up a bundle of hard wood at the local grocery store on your way here to assure proper coziness during your stay.
The cabin is just off Russel Valley Rd, the property is 6 acres with two cabins, horse corral, barn and riding arena. Russel Valley is absolutely wonderful for horseback riding. You can often see neighbors riding by on a weekend with their dogs.
I am an animal lover and welcome dogs, I know that many dogs can be the perfect guests. I do, however, have one cat and two dogs (one small and one big), so I ask if you have a dog that is aggressive with smaller animals, cats or cannot respect the premisses, please make the best choice for all considered.
My cat Kobe is also very friendly and is a regular visitor (in warmer weather) to the lower cabin (he thinks he is the cohost), whether you have a dog or not.
Hope you can come to enjoy the peacefulness Russel Valley has to offer soon! If you have a dog I charge a one time $25 fee (Airbnb requires this charge is done separately).

Also, I am now doing a long term winter lease Jan-June then short term June-Jan, message me and let me know if you are interested in the longer term rental.

Dostupno gostima
Special close amenities: A pond (for viewing) across valley (in spring and early summer) where cranes & other birds land and nest. In the spring time there is a constant frog chorus to lull you to sleep.
I have upgraded WiFi for guests use.
My house is just behind the cabin and there are other houses in the valley. Sheep herders camp (about a mile walk) is a historical sheep herders camp, loop of valley on dirt trails for walking, skiing or mountain biking(about 5/7 mile total). Stampede is closest reservoir (access by dirt road just a few miles from cabin) good for kayaking, boating, fishing & more.
Regardless of the time of year nights can be cold in Russel Valley so pack layers and appropriate gear.
*For winter season travelers and guests...I cannot predict the weather, but just as you would have to be prepared for traveling anywhere in the Tahoe basin, during the winter months please watch weather forecasts and prepare accordingly. That being said, the elevation of Russel Valley at 5,600 ft. is lower than many areas of Tahoe and Truckee (by at least 1,000 ft.), so we often receive less snow are south facing so receive warm beautiful sun, but can still have cold temperatures.
If you arrive late at night, there are no street lights, so please look for the twinkle lights above the cabin door in the shape of an upside down "v".
Russel Valley is right in the center of three reservoirs: Prosser, Stampede, and Boca, all are hiking/biking distance, as are many nearby paths and valleys (including my favorite Sheepherder's camp, just around the bend in a beautiful neighboring valley). Please be cautious while driving in on Hobart Mills to Russel Valley, it’s a small mountain road .
There is a creek on the property and many rivers close by.
Tahoe City (North Shore of Lake Tahoe) is 25.5 miles from the cabin. A short drive will take you to downtown Truckee (10 miles), the Truckee River (9 miles) , Northstar Resort (14.5 miles), Donner Lake (12 miles), Kings Beach-North Lake Tahoe (20.8 miles), Squaw Valley (22 miles), Sugar Bowl/Donner Summit (16 miles), Sierra Hot Springs/Sierraville (23.1 miles), Serene Lakes (31 miles).
I have two old cruiser bikes & a kayak you are welcome to borrow in the warmer months.
Please NO drones.

Ostale napomene
Main source for heat is wood burning stove. I do have some wood, but would recommend you purchase a box a wood prior to your stay at the local grocery store or hardware store to assure ample coziness.
Please note that modern tech amenities (TV, Movies, downloading items on the Internet) are NOT a part of this experience...but everything around nature and "unplugging" certainly is a part of the Russel Valley Retreat experience!
My internet has recently been upgraded for those that need to work remotely. Due to the new norm of people working from home, please note that I have decent internet, but I live in a region that does not have super fast uploading speeds so if you need constant fast video conferencing for your workday you might find another listing. Lots of books and board games however.
Children love the outdoors in Russel Valley, I welcome children as well, but please contact me if you have specific questions/concerns, this is an older cabin with updated amenities... there could be some safety concerns with smaller children with wood burning stove, etc..

The neighborhood is rural, but you may see neighbors driving by in morning and night to and from work, as the main road is right in front of the cabin. I have wonderful neighbors and fresh egg delivery on Wednesdays (if you are interested). All of Russel Valley has dirt roads, which can cause extra dust, just one small cost of rural west living. Please be considerate of the 15 mile per hour speed limit, it keeps our wildlife and pets safe, while cutting back on dust.
There are many walking, biking (cruising or mtn. biking), x-country skiing, snowshoeing, horseback riding, fishing, hiking trails right from the front door of the cabin. I will have information, directions and some field guides and maps available. As mentioned before there are also many lakes, rivers and creeks close by. If you prefer a gym, our local parks and recreation with everything you might need (including an indoor pool with fun park, swim lanes, water volleyball court, as well as indoor track and workout equipment) is less than 10 miles away.

I began my long love of traveling, hosting and being a house guest in my late teens. I have traveled and lived in Europe, Africa and Asia. I love meeting and hosting people from all over. I am an outdoor, environmental and animal enthusiast, but most importantly appreciate a good view. I cannot live without my my 3 "f's": family, friends and furry things! I love long walks with my dogs, the art of cooking, story telling, and just about any craft. I grew up in Tahoe City, on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe, I know many of the magical spots this region holds, and a fair amount of all it's residents. I am respectful and hope to make you feel at home.

My house is right behind the cabin, so if I am home, you are welcome to ask me anything you may want to know about the area...from where to hike, or ski for a particular kind of weather day to where to eat, rent bikes, hunt for arrowheads or drive. I enjoy hosting and know the area well. But, if you want complete privacy, you are welcome to it, it is up to you! Although my house is in relatively close proximity, you have a complete separate driveway and entrance. The back of the cabin backs to my house for optimal privacy, but faces the valley for great views. The cabin kitchen window is the only window facing my house, but you have curtains for privacy, if needed and it just looks out to my deck steps. My animals have a small dog door and may bark if I am not home, please let me know if you need me to keep them inside for naps or any special sleeping needs.
I work, but have a flexible schedule, especially in the summer. I will have a key pad, but hope to be here to meet most of you when you arrive.
Important: There is a road in front of the cabin that local neighbors use.
If you plan to bring a dog, please let me know prior and please note that there is a $25 flat fee per dog.
