Unique, single-room glass-fronted hut in a silver birch/rowan wood on a small hill, full of character with a spectacular view 25 miles to the South East. Rannoch Moor is a place of peace and tranquillity, there is no noise (after the 9.05pm train) and no light pollution. Weather permitting, you can watch the stars and sunrise while lying in bed, see deer walking in the wood, experience being cosy in the midst of dramatic weather or listen to the dawn chorus. Pls read all details before booking.

Prostor
The hut is small (4m x 3m) but very comfortable, warm and in an extraordinary setting. It is constructed with local larch wood and tiled with reclaimed Scottish slate. It can be set up as a double or two single beds (please let us know your preference in advance).
You are likely to be woken by the sunrise, which is a highlight for most guests, but please bring an eye mask if you want to sleep in.
Dogs are welcome (but not on beds), please ask if you would like us to provide a dog bed.
Access to The Star Hut is by a 6- step staircase and then a short climb up a grassy slope with a rope handrail available if needed. The hut itself is accessed by 2 steps. There is rough ground around the hut and slopes on all sides so care is needed.
The Star Hut does not have plumbing but lockable toilets, sinks and hot water are available (but no shower) a few minutes (175 metres) walk away on Rannoch Station platform (clean and well-maintained by the owners, who are also station adopters). These toilets are open to the public 24/7 all year round and can be busy during the day with Tearoom customers during the season. Early morning and in the evening they are usually unused except by you apart from occasional camper vans parking overnight. Although we make every effort to keep the washroom clean and welcoming this arrangement is not for everybody. A photo of the ladies washroom is included in the listing. Please only book to stay if you are happy with this.
Smoking is not allowed in the hut or in the surrounding wood, please use the station car park.
Please do not use the wood as a toilet for obvious reasons!
A kettle, tea/coffee, and snack are provided free of charge.
A small fridge and microwave are provided in the hut. Mugs/teaspoons are provided. Please bring any other crockery/cutlery you need.
Bed linen, towel, soap, a torch, compass and binoculars are provided for your use free of charge.
Wi-fi is not available.

The Moor of Rannoch Restaurant with Rooms and the Kinloch Rannoch hotels are now taking dinner bookings from non-residents but you will need to reserve a table well in advance. You are welcome to self-cater or order from Rannoch Station Tearoom as described above.
The nearest shop is 18 miles away so please come prepared.

I'm Bill Anderson, my wife Jenny and I run the Rannoch Station Tearoom on the platform and live at Renton Cottage here at the station.

The Star Hut is in the grounds of Renton Cottage, 100 metres from Rannoch Station car park. Rannoch Station is a small hamlet with a few houses and the Moor of Rannoch hotel. A sign to Renton Cottage at the car park clearly shows the way.
To check in, please come to Rannoch Station Tearoom on the platform during opening hours (08:30 (10:00 on Sundays) to 16:30 every day except Thursdays and Fridays) from March 7th to Oct 31st.
You are advised to arrive before dark on your first night. Once you are familiar with our area you’ll be fine but arriving in the dark might be daunting.
We are very happy to be flexible with check in/out times if we possibly can, baggage can be stored if needed and we can offer advice on the train service and local walks.
A local walking guide is provided in the hut.
