Pearl Divers Quarters, 135kms beyond Broome are poignant in style, location and aspect. To say these private rooms are on the waterfront is an understatement. At high tide you'll want to throw a fishing line out the window, and you'll hear our resident pair of Pied Oystercatchers call the flood tide with their distinctive 'chirp chirp'. First light of the new day will stream across the bay and through your window as piccaninny dawn produces a flare of striking pink & orange hues before sunrise.

Approximately 2 hours drive from Broome are the 5 private waterfront rooms in the Pearl Divers Quarters, a compact oceanside residence that was once the welcome lodging of pearl divers at the Arrow Pearling Base.

The 5 rooms are side by side and have common walls, forming part of the dedicated accommodation building that is adjacent to (and a short walk from) the shared amenities ...

The well-equipped, shared, commercial style 'indoor' kitchen is available for guest use, with cooking appliances and other aids to cooking supplied, as well as shared fridges & a freezer. Long wooden tables and bench seating are set up for guests to share. It's a bright and airy space with ceiling fans. There's a small library and a few sofas. With windows all around to make the most of the amazing view out to the bay, some visitors like to relax here.

There is also an outdoor kitchen. Designed to capture the breeze and the view, it has a bar, long table and informal seating, in a shaded, absolute ocean frontage position. There's a kitchen sink & bench, gas cooker and a shared fridge. Guests are invited to take any appliances, utensils and other aids to cooking they might require, from the main (indoor) kitchen, to use during their stay - and return those items to the main kitchen when they leave.

There’s a re-purposed pearl shell pegging tank, filled with fresh water, on the rock ledge out the front of the outdoor kitchen, providing an opportunity for a relaxing dip while enjoying views over the bay.

Close by is the communal building containing laundry, bathroom cubicles, showers, toilets and washbasins, also shared by other guests and Pearling Base crew.

There is a fire pit oceanside, adjacent to the Pearl Divers Quarters, and all guests are welcome to gather/get the fire going in the evenings (unless there is a fire ban). We will supply firewood for your first fire - and if guests want to collect their own, we will advise where best to collect it from. You may like to consider bringing your own firewood or purchasing bags from Broome.

The distinct design character of the Pearling Base buildings comes from the West Australian Pearl Farm style, reflecting the practical capture of oceanic winds and maximised shade.

External shutters are integrated in to the colorbond steel facades of the structures and transform what can be completely closed up buildings into bright spaces, with exceptional views.

Beyond the shutters of the Pearl Divers Quarter's rooms are glass windows with a ‘slide to open’ system, so the subtle sounds of the sea can be heard. Wooden louvres and terracotta floor tiles compliment the tropical building style. The rooms are minimalist in furnishing, with a bed, ceiling fan, split-system air conditioning, a bench for your bag and a small fridge.

Your dry stores can be stowed in the main kitchen or in the outdoor kitchen area for your easy access.

Each room has electric power points, but we ask that you do not use an electric kettle, coffee machine or hairdryer as these could interrupt power generation, impacting the entire base.

All bed linen and towels are provided. Each room is a simple standardised space with a queen size bed. It’s possible to fit a single bed or a camping stretcher-bed in the room (depending on availability), if you have an extra person in your group. We can set up the bed with linen for an additional $75 per night, if you wish to book the room for 3 people. Maximum number of guests in one room is 3.

It’s important that guests understand the private rooms are in the middle of the Pearling Base and work crew who live on site will be carrying out daily operational activities. From time to time the work taking place may produce some noise early in the morning, & possibly during daytime hours.

There are also 5 rooms on the garden side of the Pearl Divers Quarter’s building. Rooms on the oceanside share a breezeway with the rooms that look out to the garden. Doors from all 10 rooms open into a common breezeway. Guests staying in the garden rooms share the same communal amenities.

Located on the shores of Beagle Bay, 136 kms north of the Broome turn-off to the Cape Leveque Rd, the Pearl Divers Quarter's rooms are a great solution for oceanside accommodation in the area.

The Pearling Base is a private property approximately 2 hours drive from Broome. You can see our location pin on satellite maps; 110kms on the recently sealed Cape Leveque Road, and 26kms on our unsealed side road, accessible with 4wd vehicle only. The nearest community after Broome is Beagle Bay Aboriginal Community - but currently there are restrictions around access due to Covid-19. There are also a number of Aboriginal outstation properties in our neighbourhood.

It is advisable to purchase all food & grocery stores in Broome. Personal shoppers can be pre-booked if this service is required (additional costs apply). Aboriginal Communities at Beagle Bay and Lombadina sell fuel, and each has a small supermarket selection, but due to Covid-19, there is limited access to community services.

The famous Beagle Bay Church, with the pearl shell altar is well worth a visit if it's open. Guests staying in the Pearl Divers Quarters may like to explore other sites of interest around the Dampier Peninsula.

As it is a remote location, Telstra is the only telephone and data service accessible. There is no wi-fi at the Pearling Base.

Guests will be greeted on arrival at the Pearling Base, briefed about general arrangements, directed to the parking area and shown to their private room in the Pearl Divers Quarters.

As we are in a remote location, either myself, a family member or one of our team will be available around the clock to attend to any questions or concerns guests may have during their stay.

If you feel like looking around we can let you know about things to do in the area. Birdwatching is a favourite and everyone enjoys beach walks and shell collecting along our secluded beaches.

Depending on the tide, fishing is enjoyed from the rocks out the front, from the beach or at the boat ramp. Sometimes the Pearling Base Crew will head out on a ‘Pearler’s Picnic’ and with prior arrangements made, guests sometimes join them.
