Pearl Divers Quarters, 136 kms beyond Broome, are poignant in style, location and aspect. To say these private rooms are on the waterfront is an understatement. At high tide you'll want to throw a fishing line out the window, and you'll hear our resident pair of Pied Oystercatchers call the flood with their distinctive 'chirp chirp'. First light of the new day will stream across the bay and through your window, producing a flare of striking pink and orange hues before sunrise.

Approximately 1.5 hours drive from Broome are the 5 private Sea View rooms in the Pearl Divers Quarters, a compact Oceanfront Residence that was once the welcome lodging of Pearl Divers at the Arrow Pearling Base.

The 5 rooms are side by side and form part of the dedicated accommodation building that is adjacent to (& a short walk from) the active, shared kitchen/dining room. Close by is the communal building containing laundry, bathroom cubicles, showers, toilets and washbasins, also shared by other guests and Pearling Base crew.

There are also 5 rooms on the garden side of the Pearl Divers Quarter’s building – the rooms looking out to sea share a breezeway with the rooms that look out to the garden – doors from the 10 rooms open in to the common breezeway. Guests staying in the garden rooms share the same communal amenities.


Bed linen and towels are provided. Each Pearl Divers Quarter’s room is a simple, standardised space with a queen size bed. It’s possible to fit a camping stretcher-bed in the room if you have an extra person in your group. We can set up the bed with linen for an additional $50 per night.

External shutters are integrated in to the colorbond steel facades of the Pearl Divers Quarters, tempering light and maintaining privacy as required. Completely closed up buildings can be transformed in to bright, airy spaces.

A ‘slide to open’ window system in each room allows the subtle sound of the sea to be heard when the shutters are up and windows are open. The distinct design character of the Pearling Base buildings comes from the West Australian Pearl Farm style, reflecting the practical capture of oceanic winds and maximised shade.

Wooden louvres compliment the tropical building style, along with ceiling fan and terracotta tiles on the floor in all Pearl Divers Quarter’s rooms. The space is minimalist in furnishing and has split-system air conditioning.

For your food and drinks there is a small fridge in your room and a shared guest fridge in the main kitchen. Your dry stores can be stowed in the main kitchen area for your easy access. You can use the cooking appliances available in the shared kitchen and you will find all other aids to cooking and dining supplied there for your use.

Guests will be greeted on arrival at the Pearling Base, briefed about general arrangements, directed to the parking area and shown to their private room in the Pearl Divers Quarters.

Boating, fishing & crabbing are popular activities on the bay and you’re welcome to bring your boat. Our boat ramp provides good, safe access to the water.

The beach out the front is pretty special and guests may enjoy a beach walk or collecting shells along our long stretch of secluded beaches.

It’s important that guests understand the private rooms are in the middle of the Pearling Base and work crew who live on site could be carrying out daily operational activities nearby.

The active kitchen/dining space is available for all guests to utilise throughout their stay. It has a well-equipped commercial style kitchen and in the dining area there are long wooden tables and bench seating. It's a well set up, large shared open plan space that guests can feel free to come and go to. It's bright and airy with ceiling fans, has a small library and a few sofas. With windows all around to make the most of the amazing view out to the bay, some visitors like to relax here.

There is a fire pit oceanside, adjacent to the Pearl Divers Quarters, and all guests are welcome to gather with others or get the fire going in the evenings themselves. We will supply firewood daily, and if guests want to collect their own, we will advise them where best to find it.

The 'Do-it-yourself' laundry is $5 per load. Private laundry service can be requested if required (additional costs apply).

Located on the shores of Beagle Bay, 136 kms north of Broome, the Pearl Divers Quarters are a great solution for oceanside accommodation in the area.

The Arrow Pearling Base is one of a kind on the Mid Dampier Peninsula. Most activities up here are based around the water, including the whale migration (winter months), catching fish, beach walks, swimming, getting to know the rare birds that frequent the inter-tidal zone, stargazing or just enjoying special moments of stillness in a quiet place, where the bushland and the ocean are equally amazing.

Anyone keen to catch a fish is welcome to enquire about using our fishing rods. We have crab hooks too - the Dampier Peninsula is famous for the big tasty mud crab.

We are located in close proximity to the famous Beagle Bay Church, with the pearl shell altar. Guests staying in the Pearl Divers Quarters may like to explore sites of interest around the Dampier Peninsula by 4wd.

Since the bio-security lockdown was enforced for Aboriginal Communities in the northwest of Australia due to Covid-19, there are limitations on visiting some communities. It’s important to check before making plans to enter local Aboriginal communities.

As we are in a remote location, Telstra is the only telephone and data service accessible. There is no wi-fi at the Pearling Base.

As we are in a remote location, either myself, a family member or one of our team will be available around the clock to attend to any questions or concerns guests may have during their stay.

If you feel like looking around we can let you know about things to do in the area. Birdwatching is a favourite, especially when our resident osprey pair is nesting.

Depending on the tide, fishing can be enjoyed from the rocks out the front, from the beach or at the boat ramp. There may be spare fishing rods guests can use.

Sometimes the Pearling Base crew (depending on the season and the work program) will head out on a ‘Pearlers Picnic’ and with prior arrangements made, guests sometimes join them. Costs are shared accordingly.

Fat-bikes are available for guests’ use. When finished riding, we’d appreciate it if you could wash the bike with fresh water & liquid soap, dry off the external mechanical parts and spray those parts with lubricant.

The single and twin kayaks are available for guests’ use. From time to time there could be a few people on site sharing the use of them.

A personal chef can be pre-arranged (with pricing according to guest requirements) should this option be required. We can arrange for staff to be available to deal with quotes and assist with menu and service options.
