Our family lived in this home for 3.5 years as we remodeled it to prepare it for you, our guest. So there are the luxuries of a vacation rental with the comforts of a thoughtfully updated home. It was originally built in 1947 as a summer cabin on the golf course. Through landscaping and thoughtful updates, this home has been restored to its glory as an enjoyable cabin escape. The quarks of a small cabin are still there, such as uneven floors and narrow staircase, but the comforts of modern living are tucked throughout, including an insulated Work-From-Home office Shed with full desk and heat!!
Enter via the front door into the living room, or come around the back to the Mud Room with heated tile floors, washer and dryer, chest freezer, bench, custom shoe rack and plenty of outlets for your boot warmers.
Enjoy the cozy living room with Samsung Frame TV (with high speed internet and ACCESS to all your favorite apps. You supply your own log ins, however) and modern gas stove (new in 2020). Dining at the West Elm table is most comfortable for two, but we also supply 2 folding chairs so that 4 people can dine together and a leaf for even more elbow room.
The kitchen was fully remodeled in 2019 with quartz counters, full size dishwasher, gas range and giant toddler-bathtub-sized stainless steel sink. Custom uplighting in the open shelving allows you to show off your best wine or whiskey bottles. The under-counter double fridges offer the same capacity as a normal sized fridge, but the small hassle of bending over is the trade off for wide open counter tops for pleasurable cooking prep.
The stairs to the second floor are narrow, but they have been carpeted for comfort and safety. Upstairs you will find both Queen bedrooms and a half bath. Each room has a queen bed outfitted in comfortable linens. One bedroom has a TV, the other has a full glass sliding door to enjoy views of the snow falling in the neighborhood. Both rooms have blackout curtains for your comfort.
The yard with hot tub, synthetic turf, putting green, dining area and gas fire pit with Adirondack chairs are a sight to behold. Landscaping and fully enclosed fence were installed in the spring of 2021. Market lights hang over the hot tub for evening soaks, or shut them off for a sweeping view of stars. Please do not use the hot tub after 9pm quiet hours begin. The lawn is synthetic so it is guaranteed to be green and beautiful for your visit (or white and snowy!). The back portion of the yard is decomposed granite with a beautiful view of the 3rd hole and ladies tee of Brockway Golf Course as well as dining table, putting green and gas fire pit with Adirondack chairs. The golf course is private property, but there is a gate for you to use if you are a guest of the golf course golfing and want to run into the property for a fresh cocktail :). Our private 3 hole putting green is the perfect spot to practice your putts before walking down to the nearby clubhouse for your tee time.
Also out in the yard is a large insulated Work-From-Home Shed Office. This space is an excellent spot to get "away" and get some work done. There is a large corner desk, comfortable office chair, space heater and plenty of outlets.
In the summer, there is no Air Conditioning (pretty much anywhere in Tahoe, actually) so all your neighbors will have their windows open to enjoy the cool night air. That means that every whisper and sound you make outdoors at night carries into everyone's windows. Please respect quiet hours in our sweet, quiet neighborhood. There are fans in each bedroom and the home has new insulation in the roof so it will hold the cool night air through the daytime if you close the insulated curtains first thing in the morning. This same insulation helps keep the cabin cozy and snug through the winter months. We also provide HEPA air filters for the unfortunate "smoke season" we often experience in California.
DOGS: We welcome your pups here, but since this is first and foremost a house for humans, we ask that you help them with some basic manners. Most importantly, we do NOT permit dogs on the furniture in any way at all. Not with your blankets from home, not even if they are one of those hypoallergenic awesome allergy-free dogs :) We offer a nice temperpedic dog bed, so they shouldn't be wanting for comfort while here, we promise! We ask that if you plan to ever leave your dog home alone, that you bring a crate and crate your pup when you are not home. Please DO NOT leave your pups alone in the backyard, even when you're home. Dogs tend to bark in unfamiliar places and we have great neighbors who don't deserve to have a dog barking at them. We have a dog door into the mudroom and another between the mudroom and kitchen. You may cover them to keep your pup locked in with you and they are yours to use if you trust your pup to go in and out as they please, while you are home :)
The modern gas stove was installed in 2020 and is on a thermostat to keep you toasty warm for your stay. It is the only heat source for the whole house, however, so it can not be turned off in the winter to keep little curious hands safe. Our little cabin is unfortunately not suited for kids too young to understand to stay away from hot stoves, steep stairs and open kitchen shelves with lots of breakables.
Please note that you are staying in a home, not a hotel, and our housekeeper charges a set rate because our guests leave the house similar to how they found it so she can come in to sanitize, clean and make it perfect for you each and every time. We have a short list of tidying tasks that we ask you to complete before checkout. Nothing crazy, but we like to be up front about it. We just ask that you clean and put away the dishes you use, take out the kitchen trash that you made, place used towels in the shower, leave the beds unmade (but no need to strip them!) and return any furniture/games to where you found them.
Hot Tub service is provided throughout your month-long stay and the service provider will let themselves into the backyard. The hot tub is also serviced between every stay, no matter the length.
Snow removal on the driveway is provided by a professional local company anytime there is a storm of 5 or more inches. Snow removal on the decks and yard to the hot tub will be completed prior to your arrival, but is not guaranteed on any timeline throughout your stay. We will try to make it over as soon after the storm as we can and will communicate with you during the storm to ensure you are safe and have egress.
