Guests are surprised and delighted at how quiet our neighbourhood is, yet in a few minutes walk they can be at the best restaurants, boutiques and the waterfront. We have retained the Victorian charm of the house (it was built in 1860) using antiques and old framed lithographs especially in the parlour downstairs, complete with pump organ, oil lamps and a cosy conversation bench for two- but the bathroom is brand new and the beds modern! It operates and is inspected under Licence 1200222.

This is one of the 2 upstairs bedrooms in our heritage house at #236 Sydney Street adjacent to the historic park of Hillsborough Square. We call it the "Winter Room" even although it overlooks our flower-filled back garden and faces south, filling with morning sunshine in the summer through its 2 large windows. It has its own lock, a queen size mahogany sleigh bed, antique cast iron fireplace front and pictures with a 'winter' theme that contribute to its Victorian ambiance. Red, silver and gold are the predominant colours in the soft furnishings, and the feature guests love most is the in-room vanity so you can get ready in the morning without competing for access to the bathroom and catch the morning news or your favourite show on the flat screen TV. Free wifi ensures you remain in touch with family and friends and there is a handy basket of books and magazines in case you just want to stay in bed and have a read.

Our neighbourhood is centred round a historic tree-filled city square surrounded by the original built homes from the Victorian era with pocket gardens full of flowers. Close by are churches and other buildings with amazing architecture, full of history. You are only a few minutes walk from Province House, the Confederation Centre of the Arts, The Guild, The Mack and City Cinema. The main business district a couple of blocks away has banks, post offices, drug stores, a liquor store and the only downtown mall. I have lost count of the restaurants that are less than 5 minutes walk away including one that serves the best seafood and another that brews the best Island beer.

I love meeting all the interesting travellers who have come to stay at my place over the years. When I have time, I enjoy reading, mainly for information, watching British movies and TV shows, puttering in the garden and listening to light classical music. Being a Scot, I have a good ear for the bagpipes. I used to live in the Canadian Arctic so I have enjoyed trips to the Caribbean. I love seafood so the Island is a great place to live - fish and chips is a favourite of mine along with a local beer. I want people to relax and enjoy my place- forget cares and anxieties and soak up the delights of being on this lovely island.

I am on site most of the day, cleaning up, keeping up with maintenance tasks and puttering in the garden. As I have a home just across the street it is easy to get a hold of me day or night. I love to make sure you spend your time and energy wisely seeing and doing the most worth while things on PEI and in our beautiful city. I know a lot about the history of the province and am happy to share my insights and give advice-even in advance of your stay. I have given walking tours of the city and bus tours of the north shore. I can speak French but my German is a little rusty and I do try to give my guests space for peace and quiet if that is what they need. You can make yourself a cup of tea when you want-or fix a hot chocolate to round off a perfect day.
