This delightful and unique octagonal house, formerly an 18th century smallholder's cottage, nestles in an idyllic and peaceful setting by a bubbling stream and a wonderful waterfall, set in a wooded Combe in the heart of the Quantock hills. It comfortably sleeps 4 in two bedrooms. After a day of hiking or exploring the beautiful surroundings what better way to relax than in your own private cedar wood hot tub or getting cosy in front of the wood burning stove, it's the perfect escape.

This delightful and unique octagonal house, formerly an 18th century smallholder's cottage, nestles in an idyllic and peaceful setting by a bubbling stream and a wonderful waterfall in a wooded combe in the heart of the Quantock hills. It is surrounded by it’s own garden and National Trust land, with endless miles of walks amongst ancient oak and beech trees and on the heathland, with its ponies, sheep and red deer. Reached via an unmade track and over a footbridge, it doesn’t get much more rural than this, and makes for a perfect holiday hideaway. Superb for mountain biking, bird watching and walking, it really is a little slice of heaven, and from our experience, once visited most people book their return.
Shop 1½ miles, pub within walking distance. 2 miles away is the fossil rich coast at Kilve.
Spacious living room, overlooking waterfall, with wood-burning stove set in an inglenook fireplace. Fitted kitchen/dining room, adjoining bathroom with toilet. One step to a double bedroom with king size bed. Twin bedroom (with trundle bed under, making it a triple) with en-suite shower room and toilet. Both bedrooms have luxury Egyptian cotton linen and towels, robes and slippers. Bedrooms have interconnecting doors.

Dostupno gostima
It is a secluded and private cottage, guests have full use of the cottage and gardens during their stay.

Absolutely wonderful weekend. Charming cottage in beautiful surroundings. A real retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life. A place one can hang up the car keys for several days and just walk and enjoy the wildlife and countryside.

This is a fabulous place to stay. Deep in the Somerset Combes with deer on your doorstep.
Kate made us so welcome and it's a great spot to have a dog as the walks were straight from the house out into the country. Great attention to detail beds pillows and duvets all super comfortable. We heard owls calling to each other and watched a woodpecker on the bird feeder right by the kitchen window.

Very warm welcome, stunning position amid tree lined valley with stream, waterfall and lovely countryside. Access is uneven and could present a challenge to anyone unsure on their feet in wet weather. Fantastic holiday!

A delightful cottage in a spectacular setting. The owners have presented the cottage extremely thoughtfully. Little touches life bath robes and slippers, scones with jam & cream, and bottle of wine made our stay all the more enjoyable.
We will return.

Myself, husband and border collie spent a very happy week in this cottage in September. The welcome pack was very generous and thoughtful and the owners, Kate and Dave, friendly and helpful. The cottage was well equipped, beautifully clean with lovely white linen and towels and really well presented. It is in its own garden, with a stream and waterfall running past the twin bedroom. The property is a unique hexagonal shape and you can walk in a circle from the hall, through the lounge, then the twin bedroom, into the double bedroom, through the bathroom, into the kitchen and back into the hall. Of course all have solid doors and all the rooms are a good size. The twin room has its own ensuite shower room.

You drive down a single track road to the property, which has an area next to the stream for parking, and access to the Roundhouse is over a little foot bridge. The single track road is also a public right of way up to the Quantock Hills. Its a beautiful walk alongside the stream, through woodland and up into the hills which are covered in heather, yellow gorse and fern with grazing sheep. We did two different circular walks from the roundhouse.

Not only did we see red deer wandering past from the kitchen window, but bluetits, chaffinches and a very tame squirrel feed from the bird feeder, and also on our walk through the wood I saw my very first kingfisher - a flash of vivid turquoise.

Downside? There is absolutely no mobile or internet signal at the cottage as it is in a hollow. We have O2 and EE and neither would work, but having said that, if you want a peaceful, relaxing "away from it" all holiday, this is the place, and in an emergency, Kate and Dave the owners and nearby neighbours would be there to help as they do have services.

I would recommend this cottage to anyone, and would love to return again.

Myself, mother, sister and my black Labrador spent a wonderful few days at The Roundhouse. What an absolute joy!! We knew as soon as we arrived we were going to feel right at home and weren't disappointed. From the scrumptious welcome pack to the idyllic location and beautiful cottage we couldn't have asked for more. Our hosts were delightful, as was the wonderful array of birds, wildlife and glorious scenery we were surrounded by. Fabulous walks literally on the doorstep or further afield if you wanted a drive out. We had a libation each day at the local pub, a short stroll away from the cottage, picking up freshly laid eggs which were on sale outside various cottages. We were lucky enough to see the Dipper too!! We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again and hope to do so next year. It truly is a real gem.

The Round House is in a perfect location. There is a stream adjoining the garden and to access the cottage you have to walk over a small bridge. The woods are next to the stream and there are miles of woodland walks right on your doorstep.Inside, the cottage has been renovated to a very high standard. A atmosphere of luxury has been created, whilst at the same time retaining all the character of an old property.

The Round House is a truly magical place in great surroundings. The owners are really nice, on hand if you need anything but leave you to get on with your holiday. I understand that the house was refurbished in August and it's been done tastefully and to a high standard, the linen and towels are all of good quality and the place is spotless. Thank you very very much, we will be back!

Gorgeous location nestled right in the woods by a stream. Beautifully decorated, stylish, comfortable, well-equipped. Very helpful owner. If I would change anything, one bathroom doesn't have a shower, (only old fashioned bath with separate spouts for hot and cold water- even a combined spout would have been fine) and the door to the bathroom didn't quite close properly. Overall though, an absolutely perfect country escape and would come back in a heartbeat.

The perfect hideaway in a stunning location tucked away from the world. The cottage was beautifully and stylishly decorated, well-equipped and spotlessly clean, surrounded by its own large garden and wonderful views from every window (and there are lots due to the hexagonal shape of the cottage). The owners were lovely and had also provided a basket of goodies for us on arrival. Our children aged 5 and 9 loved it too. There are lots of walks from right outside the cottage and a shallow brook twisting through the woods perfect for paddling and dam building. Would definitely visit again

Holford, Уједињено Краљевство

Well it’s impossible to tell you about all the wonderful places to see and do around here. Just walking and biking on the hills is brilliant, but should you want to take the car, there are many places to visit.

Exmoor is wonderful, fabulous scenery beautiful little villages and spectacular coastline. Main roads can be pretty busy in school holidays.

Bath, Bristol and Exeter are well worth a visit if you want good shops (see separate section). Bath Abbey and Roman Baths are well worth a visit, but quite a drive. Exeter is about an hour’s drive away but it’s a really delightful city. The cathedral is magnificent and you can visit the tunnels which run under the city and are very interesting. The Princess Hay shopping area was re-built in 2007 and is very impressive if shopping’s your thing. There are also lovely walks and little shops and cafes by the river.

Nearer to Holford, Taunton is our county town. The river runs through the centre of the town and with the hills around it is very attractive, the museum is great. As well as all the usual shops and restaurants, it is the home of Somerset Cricket. (Think Sir Ian Botham and Viv Richards).

Our local coastline is not good for bathing, but Kilve and Lilstock have pebbly beaches with lovely views and are very unspoilt, fossils abound. Blue Anchor, Dunster Beach and Minehead are our nearest bathing beaches. Also Burnham-on-Sea and Weston-Super-Mare are not far. For surf, head to the North Devon Coast at Woolacombe or Putsborough.

West Somerset Railway runs from Bishops Lydyeard to Minehead. It’s a steam railway with many stops along the way, but the one at Williton is closest. This is a really charming little station, be-decked with flowers and having many old-fashioned features, even down to the luggage on the platform, dating back to the glory days of steam.

Tropiquaria in the old radio station just past Williton on the A39 is excellent for small children. There is a brilliant pirate ship, numerous climbing frames and various animals, birds and reptiles. You can even hold a boa constrictor or a tarantula if that appeals to you? There’s a café and indoor play area.

Another place that is a good day out is Watchet. It has a charming small town feel to it and the Marina area, with the steam train puffing by, on a bright summer day with gulls overhead, looks like something out of a children’s painting. There are numerous quirky shops to browse around. There is access to the beach if you walk up the hill towards Blue Anchor, about 200 yards. It is a pebbly beach and not for bathing, but children love crabbing there.

Also for children and families, there is Butlins at Minehead. It’s a fun day out with a great pool and lots for the children to do. Minehead itself is a lovely seaside town with the usual amusement arcades and bucket and spade shops but also some pretty boutique and gift shops too. It has a fabulous vegetarian cafe with a health food shop below called Toucan Whole Foods which I highly recommend.

Devon and Dorset are not too far away if you fancy a day out.

Somerset is a most beautiful and varied county, the second largest in England. There are so many different areas to explore, but I have to confess, our favourite is still the Quantocks!

Other things to do:-

The Quantocks have become very popular with mountain bikers over the past few years, you get sweeping hills, woodland, exposed heathland as well as steep gnarly descents.

The nearest golf course is at Cannington. Not particularly pretty and
Has nine greens and 18 tees. Quite flat, about £12 a round.

The nicest golf course nearby is Enmore Park at Enmore
near Spaxton (not far from Bridgwater) Tel. 01278 671244.

Sea fishing. Many people fish from the shore at Lilstock and Blue
Anchor. There are a couple of boats which go out of Watchet Harbour.

Fly fishing. Fly fishing is possible on Durleigh Reservoir near Bridgwater and there are various stock ponds in the Dulverton area on the edge of Exmoor. There is salmon fishing on quite a few of the Devon rivers, notably the Exe.
