Chelen Market - In Chelen, a town adjacent to Chuburna, you can find a local market were you can buy regional fresh fruits and vegetables as well as the necessary ingredients to prepare local dishes like for example the “Tikin Xic” fish dish with recado rojo (Mexican spice) and sour orange. We especially recommend the stand that sells freshly prepared natural juices (try the green juice).

Birdwatching in the lagoon
The lagoon, located behind the house, displays an exceptional landscape created by the unusual combination of natural resources, flora and fauna that constitute an ecosystem representative of the dry tropics. In the library of the house, you will find a guide to the bird species present in the region. The coolest way though to get in touch with the local wildlife is by kayak. We recommend Erick Sosa (+52 9993 803393), he will not only rent you the kayaks in the port of Chuburna but he is also an excellent Spanish speaking guide.

Dona Julia not only looks after our house and our tenants but she also is an amazing cook who prepares magical dishes just using local fresh ingredients. You can arrange with her to cook for you daily basis or just for any special occasion during your stay. Our recommendation, try her traditional Mexican breakfast, the perfect way to start your day and to taste and understand better why Yucatan is so magical and intercultural.
