Sightseeing
-Dupont: Get your bearings at the visitor center. They will put you onto a great trail to hike, bike, or ride a horse. Theres a laminated map on the coffee table, a folded paper map that you can take with you and a guide book for Dupont in the cabin. Here I’ll list a few recommended hikes.
Dupont is busy during the Summer and most weekends throughout the year. Its best to get a parking spot early in the morning. Late afternoons are also a great time to visit waterfalls.
-Hooker Falls - Hooker falls parking is just 10 minutes from our house and is a leisure 10 minute or less walk. It is a popular swimming and picnic spot. If your are arriving late afternoon and you want an easy walk before bed this is a great one. It is really easy to sneak this one in before sunset. You can leave our house, walk to hooker, and be back to your car with in 30 minutes.
-Triple Falls - combine this with seeing hooker falls. Cross the bridge on the hooker falls trail and walk 5 minutes to triple falls. There are several places to view it from. Before going up the hill theres a little side trail that takes you off along the river where you can swim and make your way to the base of the lowest falls. Continue up hill to the view of all three.
-High Falls and covered bridge
-Cedar Rock - great views
-Fawn Lake - fantastic picnic spot and swimming. Theres a small dock and gazebo.
-Lake Imaging
-Wintergreen falls - least visited, 3.5 mile loop.
-Grassy creek falls
There are a lot of great moderate hikes to be had in Dupont. On your way back stop by Sneaky Moose for ice cream and local beer. They close at 7.

Their shop sources a lot locally — from the clothing line from a Brevard College Grad — to pottery, soaps, jewelry, etc. It’s a great spot to grab any gear you forgot at home, as well as something to remember your trip to DuPont by. A must stop on the other side of the forest.

If you’re riding or hiking into Pisgah, the Hub is a perfect stop for any gear on the way in, or a drink (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and food truck on the way out. They have bike repair, tubes, patch kits, and all your adventure gear.
The Velvet Cup is a coffee, homemade mini donuts & drink truck we love. Their protein smoothies are fueling and delicious. Also their Italian ice & chai are rivaled by no one. The Velvet Cup is always there.
Usually there’s a food truck, as well.

Their smoothies and coffee and snacks are delightful, as well. Last time I checked they had kombucha on tap!
Our beloved, local bookstore. Not only do they stock quite a lot on these shelves, but the rotating displays are always current and intriguing.
They stay open til 8 every night but Sundays, which is rare for downtown Brevard, so take a stroll after dinner.
Fun fact: a skunk snuck in one time when the door was propped open. At night, it was seen pacing that front display window trying to get out. Many a folks came out to help and miraculously the skunk was unharmed & did not spray the shop. Small miracles and local legend!

Falls Landing is classic Brevard. One of our longest- standing restaurant with a lovely menu. Make a reservation if you’re planning for a weekend dinner- it gets busy!

A new addition to Brevard and one I keep returning to. With a variety of dishes hailing from many different locations, the chef pulls it off great!
You can get a Greek platter, or delicious curry, or classic Portuguese drink. The Bartender is great and really knows their stuff.
The outdoor seating is also lovely. On one end of Brevard, so the street parking is typically within one block and usually available!

You can get a Greek platter, or delicious curry, or classic Portuguese drink. The Bartender is great and really knows their stuff.
The outdoor seating is also lovely. On one end of Brevard, so the street parking is typically within one block and usually available!
Their inside scene can be dimly lit and gives it an intimate feeling. Food and drinks are good!

Visiting Pisgah Forest National Park & DuPont State Forest
On the weekends during the summer, the trials can get quite packed late morning, so we suggest going out early and being on a trail by 8 or 9 am if you want to avoid crowds. If you are exiting Pisgah Forest in the afternoon, expect to wait at the light just below Dolly’s for a bit. And thank you for sharing the road with all our cyclists!

While our place is close to town, we’re also ‘out there’ a bit! So we’re delighted Door Dash now delivers to the cabin. Just make a note for the driver to follow the “AirBnb” sign, so your food gets to yah.

Sliding Rock
Sliding Rock in Pisgah Forest is quite a fun time. A 60’ slide down a casually graded waterfall plunges you into chilly water. In summer months, there’s a a parking fee (the only in any of our forests!) which covers the cost of lifeguards. Be careful and smart if you go outside lifeguard hours. It can be quite busy in summer months with camps and tourists standing in line to slide, but it’s not a memory you’ll forget!
