Downtown Asheville is fun, funky, and charming. Unique shops and dining, street musicians, and interesting architecture abound. It is easy to spend all day wandering up and down the bustling streets. While there is some street parking, we recommend you pay to park in one of the garages.
Also, please be aware that Asheville’s homeless population has unfortunately increased during the pandemic and you are going to encounter homeless people downtown. We are a city working hard to find a real solution, and downtown Asheville is a safe place to visit.

This is a 1-mile (each way) out and back trail to a bald mountain top with spectacular panoramic views. While it is a relatively easy trail, the way out is completely uphill. There are also trailheads for other longer, more difficult hikes from the same parking area.

Leaf Looking
In Fall, guests flock to Western North Carolina to appreciate the incredible display of changing leaves. You can enjoy the foliage from the BRP or turn left out of the driveway onto 74-A and make your way toward Bat Cave and Lake Lure. Remember that locals use these roads to get where they need to go. Take your sweet time and soak in the magic, but if you notice a line of cars behind you, find a place to pull to the side for a minute and let people go by. Your host city’s citizens will thank you (and get to work on time!).
