Uber is not allowed into the airport and so your only option is taxi or bus. (You CAN take an Uber or Didi back to the airport). After a long day of travel, a taxi may be the one thing you want to splurge on… o Taxi – There is a kiosk to the left as you walk from the gates to the main part of the airport terminal. You can give them your address and pay there, and they will give you a ticket. You then take the ticket outside and give it to a taxi driver at the taxi stand. The cost should be about 300 pesos or less.

The the Mayan people are some of the most gentle, helpful and overall wonderful people you will find. They will accept your broken third grade Spanish with overwhelming relief over English, so break out whatever you got with zero embarrassment. This is not Paris. If you try to talk to them in Spanish, most will respond positively and maybe even respond with a few words in English. If you speak English first, and are not talking to a tourist shopkeeper, they may not respond at all. So, if you can, always start in Spanish, even if only "Hola, como estas?"

We very much recommend that you take advantage of the weekly Sunday street closures from 8am to 12:30pm that extend from Plaza Grande, to the north end of Paseo Montejo, a distance of about 3 kilometers. Bike rentals are between 20 and 40 pesos per hour. There are artists and vendors set up along the route and it’s a great mix of locals and tourist, young and old. To get to the bike rentals, go the corner of Calle 47 and Paseo Montejo and you will see them set up on both sides of Paseo Montejo just north of the intersection. Bring a drivers license or ID to leave with as collateral.
