The Orchard at Altapass is a nonprofit working apple orchard. But it is so much more than that. You can grab a bite to eat (I personally love the ice cream or the apple pies!) I have gone there and played a quiet game of checkers, then sat in the rockers on the porch. The views from the porch are beautiful! During apple season I love to take a stroll on one of the hiking trails before picking out my apples to bring home. And it’s only 17 miles from the farmhouse!

The Orchard at Altapass
3 Orchard RdThe Orchard at Altapass is a nonprofit working apple orchard. But it is so much more than that. You can grab a bite to eat (I personally love the ice cream or the apple pies!) I have gone there and played a quiet game of checkers, then sat in the rockers on the porch. The views from the porch are beautiful! During apple season I love to take a stroll on one of the hiking trails before picking out my apples to bring home. And it’s only 17 miles from the farmhouse!
At 56 miles from the farmhouse The Biltmore is a fun day trip. If you’ve never been it is a must see! The house is beautiful and I highly recommend booking a tour. The grounds are beautiful! My favorite place is the auditorium with the winery being a close second!

Gem Mountain Gemstone Mine
13780 North Carolina 226My friends and family love to “gem mine” at Gemstone Mountains. It’s always fun to find a great treasure. I’ve had some beautiful jewelry made from some of my finds! After sifting through our rocks at the plumes I love to get an ice cream from the gift shop! A fun afternoon for all ages…And it’s only 14 miles from the farmhouse!
The falls is owned by the National Park Service, which operates a visitor center and several miles of non-handicapped accessible trails with 4 overlooks for the falls. The 0.5-mile (0.80 km) Upper Falls trail leads to the top of the falls, where visitors can see the small twin upper falls and the water spiraling through a small canyon on its way to the main falls.
The Erwin's View trail leads to 2 overlooks, the Chimney View overlook (0.7 miles) and the Erwin's View overlook (0.8 miles). The 0.5-mile (0.80 km) Plunge Basin Trail leads to the Plunge Basin Overlook, which provides a view of the falls from the other side of the river. Finally, the 0.7-mile (1.1 km) Gorge Trail, which branches off from the Plunge Basin trail, leads to an area near the foot of the falls.
One of my favorite falls to visit!

Linville Caverns are privately owned active limestone caverns located in northern McDowell County, North Carolina, just south of the village of Linville Falls, on U.S. Highway 221. The caverns are open to the public year-round for guided tours. The tour takes about 20 to 30 minutes.
We like to play in the river on the rocks while waiting to go on our tour.

Activities
We love rafting. Whether it’s a nice float down the river on a hot day or a more adventurous white water rafting or even canoeing I’m in! Who doesn’t enjoy a fun day on the river? At 8 miles from the farmhouse it’s a must do!
