You will board small launches, each carrying no more than six passengers that meet all Mexican Coast Guard safety requirements and carry commercial grade 1 life jackets for your safety. You will enjoy an amazing boat ride that is approximately 40 kms long to visit the flamingos’ foraging area. 43,000 Flamingos have been recorded in the Yucatan, the majority of which nest and feed in the Rio Lagartos area. It is a protected area for migratory waterbirds as well as a refuge for wildlife and has been so for over 30 years so that you will be delighted with all those birds flying across the sky, the sand and its warm emerald green water. Celestun is also home to one of the largest colonies of Pink Flamingos (about 18 thousand) and different species of sea turtles.
