Humpback Bridge lays claim to being the oldest of Virginia's remaining covered bridges. Located in Alleghany County, just west of Covington, it was built in 1857. It was part of the James River and Kanawha Turnpike and succeeds three other bridges at the site. It stretches over Dunlap Creek, a tributary of the Jackson River that joins the Cowpasture River near Iron Gate to form the James River. Humpback Bridge is a wonderful place for everyone - you can enjoy scenic views, a picnic, etc at this beautiful historic part of our community.

Falling Spring Falls is a breathtaking 80' waterfall that is one of the most visited and photographed spots in the Alleghany Highlands. The scenic waterfall is located on Route 220 in Alleghany County, just five miles north of Covington, Virginia. The property has had extensive renovations to the overlook and grounds, including a picnic area, so that visitors can more safely stop and enjoy the view.

Lake Moomaw is among the most popular developed recreation areas in the George Washington National Forest and provide an endless array of activities including boating, fishing, hiking, biking and camping. Lake Moomaw is renowned for its excellent fishing yielding citation size brown and rainbow trout, as well as good bass, pan and crappie.

Lake Moomaw is renowned for its excellent fishing yielding citation size brown and rainbow trout, as well as good bass, pan and crappie.
