Malvern Hills Park has a public pool with a deep end and diving board. Enter via the pool house on Rumbough Place. A pool day pass is $3 per person, and you can bring your own non-alcoholic beverages (no glass).
Also in the park are walking loops, a playground, free tennis courts and a picnic shelter with grills.

Walk to Sand Hill Road (via Manila) to enter the Hominy Creek Greenway. This flat trail meanders above a creek and feels further from civilization than it really is. Try this for a peaceful reset.

Looking for a scenic walk and don't mind a bit of driving? I lived in Asheville for 7 years before learning about the Laurel River, and I'm still upset with everyone I know for not telling me. This has become one of my favorite destinations for a flat, gorgeous walk that feels truly special and restorative. The drive is worth it. This roadside trailhead approaches the wide, rocky Laurel River and then continues right alongside the river, in a valley, with occasional white water, for a stunning experience in any season. Prepare for roots, rocks and mud, and bring a jacket or two + snacks. In the summer, you can swim in certain areas.
To get there, navigate to the Laurel River Store OR the Big Laurel Trailhead. Just before the store, there is a large gravel parking area on the side of the road. Park here. The trail begins by heading downhill toward the river, just alongside the road.

The Herbiary offers all kinds of herbal and smelly gift-type items. It is pleasant just to walk around the shop and look at the many bulk teas, crystals, essential oils and other self-care items. If you want a gift for yourself or someone else, this is a good spot to try!

Buxton Hall offers a semi-casual, cafeteria-inspired setting for slow smoked barbecue. I actually love their fried chicken more than the barbecue! I recommend this place as a fun setting with great side dishes and a variety to please most people. It is also southern cooking, which you need in NC! The desserts are amazing, especially when the homemade "bunilla" wafers are in stock up front.

I love popping into this little cafe and sitting by the window or upstairs while enjoying my treats.

The food includes a variety of smoked meat sandwiches (i.e. brisket or chicken philly), wings, fries, pierogis and other amazing bites. We are lucky to have Elliot making food so close!
