This is one of my personal favorites! The 360 view from the top looks out over Shining Rock Wilderness. It is a 2.2 mile loop with 570 ft elevation gain. This one is also accessed via the Parkway and is close to Black Balsam and Devil’s Courthouse if you are up for more hikes.

Sam Knob Trail Sam Knob 2.5 MILES, ROUND TRIP Hike to the rocky summit of Sam Knob and grab outstanding sun-drenched mountain views just off the Blue Ridge Parkway. The trail explores an enormous grassy meadow at the base of the mountain filled with tall wildflowers in warm weather months. The trail climbs through a fragrant balsam-fir forest brimming with ferns and blooming mountain laurel, and scores exceptional views from the summit.
