Many people when they visit Greece ask about a famous dish. Local lamb on spit or lamb ribs. Considering it is part of the Greek BBQ tradition as long as it is for the American tradition the pork ribs and steaks a visit to one of the great places on Varis Avenue (20 minutes with UBER from city center about 20 euros cost of the ride) is a must. If you do not like a lamb you can order pork, and beef steaks or a famous dish called "Kontosouvli," pork meat cooked for hours that almost melts in the mouth. It might be a cultural shock for many to see the whole lamb on the spit rolling around. Still, Greece is considered in many parts original, and this originality is unique as the lamb meat is part of the Easter celebration tradition of the country. Order the famous Greek Tzatziki, an excellent sauce for fried potatoes. Greek salad Kontousouvli and Lamb on a spit (1 kilo is perfect for three people) and enjoy their local house wines. A dinner to remember. Look for Mister Giannis's amazing owner with the gigantic mustache and take a photo with him. It is a place you will remember.

Roasted Lamb- Lamb is a staple food in Greece. There are numerous restaurants dedicated only to spit-roast lamb. Vari Avenue after Voula Neighborhood, is one of the locations in Athenian suburbs which has an area with these restaurants. I did not frequent there because they tended to be very commercial. These days the popularity has been reduced but the quality seems to be somewhat improved. 'Ta Vlachika' is probably one of the better ones.
