Hay-on-Wye, population 1,500, lies on the welsh border. It is known as Book Town due it's numerous second-hand book shops. Canoes can by hired for paddling on the river Wye and mountain bikes for exploring the countryside. Fishing permits for fishing on the river Wye are available at Golesworthy's shop (by the clock tower in Hay).

It's well worth spending a day of your holiday here. Hay is famous for its castle, bookshops, cafes and independent retailers. There's a good food and craft market on Thursdays. Hay is home to an annual international literary festival of world status at the end of May which attracts thousands of visitors over a fortnight of events.
